Vick Wading Into Deeper Water
By: Seth
I’m really trying not to waste my breath on Michael Vick, but the recent developments in his case have superseded my own dislike of the media circus surrounding him.
With both of his co-defendants having flipped, Vick is in a very bad spot. Even worse is that the New York Times is reporting that Federal authorities are preparing an indictment for more serious charges against Vick, mostly concerning his readiness to gamble on the fights and finance other gambling rings related to dog fights. This could mean the end of Vick’s career, should the Feds actually make it through with the indictment.
In preparation for this, Vick’s lawyers are pressing him to take a plea agreement. With the mounting evidence against Vick, it will be a longshot for him to be acquitted. Additionally, if he pleads guilty and takes the agreement, the Federal charges will disappear, meaning he could resume his career much more quickly, should the NFL invite him back. This highlights the complexity of the issue, because Vick and his lawyers must hold talks with all parties involved, including the NFL, which may be foremost on his mind. After all, if the NFL is unwilling to take him back after a guilty plea, Vick may wonder if it’s really worth it to plea out.
